Pune cadet girls win gold at state TT tournament

In the cadet category, Pritha Vartikar played a key role for Pune. She was instrumental in their semifinal win over Thane. In the final, she started well with a 11-9, 11-9, 11-5 win over Pearl Amalsadiwala of Mumbai.

PUNE The Pune district team had mixed luck in the 48th inter-district and 79th Maharashtra State table-tennis tournament at Shiv Chhatrapti sports complex in Balewadi. 

While the cadet girls won a gold medal beating the Mumbai suburb team in the final, the sub-junior girls went down to Mumbai Suburb. 

In the cadet category, Pritha Vartikar played a key role for Pune. She was instrumental in their semifinal win over Thane. In the final, she started well with a 11-9, 11-9, 11-5 win over Pearl Amalsadiwala of Mumbai.

In the second match, Ananya Chande equalised the scores by beating Pune’s Radhika Sakpal 11-7, 11-3, 11-8. In the decider doubles, Pritha and Radhika gave their best, beating Pearl and Ananya 12-10, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6. 

Later in the sub-junior category, Pritha played her role well. In the first match, she defeated Mumbai’s Vidhi Shah 11-8, 5- 11, 11-7, 11- 8. In the second match, Mumbai equalised as Mihika Rohira defeated Pune’s Aneeha D’souza 12-10, 16- 14, 15-13. 

Pritha and Aneeha then again put Pune in the lead beating Vidhi S and Mihika R 11-9, 11- 7, 11-8. 

In the third singles match, Pritha failed to maintain the momentum and went down to Mihika. The score read 11-8, 11- 8, 11-8 in Mihika’s favour. In the last singles match, Aneeha also went down to Vidhi Shah 11-8, 6-11, 5-11, 4-11.
