Kiran Ramkishan Sawant (20) was found hanging in his hostel room at Marathwada Mitra Mandal Institute of Technology (MMIT) in Lohegaon on Friday morning. The incident was reported to the Lohegaon police by Sawant’s roommate.

He was a first-year student of engineering at the college situated along Vadgaon Shinde road in Lohegaon near Viman Nagar. According to assistant police inspector (API) Mahesh Togarwad of Lohegaon police station, the reason behind Sawant’s drastic step was suspected to be the exam result declared by the college on Thursday.

According to API Togarwad, Sawant had failed his exams, the police said. The body was taken to Sassoon General Hospital for post-mortem. Originally from Parbhani in Marathwada, the parents of the boy have left to Pune while his friends were at the Sassoon General Hospital all day. His friends informed police that he was fine till Thursday night.
