Pune man held for trying to rape a disabled girl

The complainant in the case came across the incident a little after midnight and took Tomar to the police as he realised that the girl was in no condition to do so herself, according to the complaint.

A 35-year-old man was arrested after he was caught trying to rape a 20-year-old woman around Wednesday midnight on the stairs of a closed shop in Kesarinagar area of Pune.

The man was identified as Mehapsingh Puransingh Tomar, resident of a residential society in Kedarinagar, originally from Madhya Pradesh, according to the police.

The complainant in the case came across the incident a little after midnight and took Tomar to the police as he realised that the girl was in no condition to do so herself, according to the complaint. The police later realised that the girl has a mental condition.

A case was registered against Tomar at Wonowrie police station under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 376 2(j)(l) for raping a woman with a mental or physical disability and 511 for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment. The case will be investigated by police sub inspector (PSI) VV Ghate of Wanowrie police station.
