Pune man tries to kill woman for refusing marriage proposal

A 23-year-old woman was attacked by a 29-year-old man after she refused to marry him due to familial pressure. Sharad Chandrakant Jagdale, a resident of Usmanabad, attacked a woman identified only as Pooja, resident of Hadapsar, around 7.15 am on Sunday.
The incident happened in a lodge room in Dhankawdi where the two had gone to celebrate Jagdale’s birthday, the police said. The two were in a relationship, but Pooja’s parents were against the couple, according to the police. When the complainant woman informed him about her decision to not marry him, he slit her throat open with a knife with the intention to kill her, according to the complaint.
The man may have also tried to kill himself as he was also found injured when an employee of the lodging service came to their room on Sunday morning.
While the woman was grievously injured, they were both rushed to Bharti Hospital where they are undergoing treatment. The incident came to light when an employee of the lodging service came to the room in the morning. The case is being investigated by police sub inspector (PSI) VB Koli of Sahkar Nagar police station. A case under Section 307 for attempted murder was registered against Jagdale.
