Indian online transportation network company and popular cab aggregators Ola got possibly one of its youngest fan when a woman delivered her baby in their cab in Pune on October 2. The ‘good news’ happened around 8 am on Monday when Ishwari Singh delivered a baby boy inside the Ola cab that she was travelling with her husband Ramesh Vishwakarma.
Residing in Kondhwa, the couple was headed to the hospital when Ishwari delivered the child in the backseat of the taxi cab. The driver, Yashwant Galande, who logged his ride with the two passengers, drove them to Kamla Nehru Hospital in Somwar Peth.
“The entire trip was an anxious experience. I never thought that I would be part of this excitement in the line of duty," the Ola driver said, according to a statement released by Ola on Thursday. According to authorities at Kamla Nehru Hospital, the newborn’s weight at the time of birth was 1,600 grams.
While Ramesh works in a private company, Ishwari is a homemaker and now they are both parents of a healthy baby. “All I can say at the moment is that the baby and his mother are fine,” said the newborn’s father.
The statement released by Ola states, "The driver has been felicitated for being a Hero for Ola and humanity at large, going the extra mile to help passengers in need."
