Two super raids by captain Deepak Hooda and Rajesh Mondal turned the tables in the last five minutes of the game, as Puneri Paltan scripted a nail-biting 34-31 win over Dabang Delhi in Vivo Pro Kabaddi League at the Shiv Chhatrapati sports complex in Balewadi on Sunday.

The hosts were trailing 10-14 in the first half and were behind 21-23 with five minutes to go for the final whistle. However, a brilliant showing by the raiders and defenders they helped claw their way back to victory.

Rajesh Mondal’s three-point raid equalised the scores 24-24 and then the hosts imposed a all- out on Delhi gaining a narrow but crucial 27-25 lead. Maintaining the pressure, Deepak Hooda displayed his experience gaining a three-point lead and took his individual tally to 10. He has achieved this feat for the fifth time this season.

With less than one minute to go, Delhi again tried to gain some momentum, but the Puneri defenders kept them at bay and secured the win. With this win Paltan increased their tally to 73 and would be aiming for the top spot.

Bengaluru Bulls beat UP Yoddha

In the earlier match, at the same venue, Bengaluru Bulls defeated UP Yoddha 36-30. Despite the loss, UP Yoddha became the sixth and last team to seal their spot in the super playoffs. Mahender Singh was superb in defence and scored 10 tackle points for the Bengaluru Bulls. Rohit Kumar was in fine raiding form and scored 13 points to lead the Bulls to a much-needed victory.

With Nitin Tomar missing, UP Yoddha were reliant on Rishank Devadiga who couldn’t deliver. Surender Singh scored 10 raid points for UP Yoddha but didn’t get enough support from his defence.
