The scheduled event of unveiling the portraits of Veer Savarkar and Balasaheb Thackeray at the auditorium of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Sunday has left Shiv Sena criticising BJP for singling them out from the invitation list.
Maharashtra Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Vinod Tawde will unveil the portraits after a resolution was passed by the PCMC general body. However, BJP has not invited Sena leaders and Thackeray family for the function.
Pimpri-Chinchwad Sena chief Rahul Kalate has sent a letter to PCMC commissioner Shravan Hardikar stating that the party has been demanding that a member of the Thackeray family should be invited for the function.
“We are making this demand since the general body passed the resolution. Our party is not being taken into confidence and BJP is playing dirty politics over the portrait of Balasaheb Thackeray,” Kalate has stated in the letter. Kalate has demanded that the event should be reworked and Thackeray family should be invited with honour.
BJP leaders are silent on Sena’s demand and said that the programme will take place as per schedule. They also pointed out that May 28 is the birth anniversary of Veer Savarkar. “We cannot make any change now,” said a top BJP leader in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Both the parties had fought the recently concluded civic elections independently. While Sena stood third in the election, BJP got absolute majority. .
