Speeding car crashes into grade separator at Morwadi, driver killed

The car hit a light post and then crashed into a supporting concrete pole built on the divider inside the grade separator located in Morwadi area of Chinchwad.

Reckless driving claimed the life of a 20-year-old on Sunday morning after the car he was driving crashed into a concrete pole in Chinchwad area of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The person travelling with him in the car, his maternal cousin, was severely injured.  Both of them are college students, the police said.

The car hit a light post and then crashed into a supporting concrete pole built on the divider inside the grade separator located in Morwadi area of Chinchwad. The front portion of the car was completely damaged, killing the driver instantly. According to the police, the car was speeding, considering the impact of the accident. The fire department officials from PCMC rushed to the spot and retrieved the two from the wreckage.

The deceased man was identified as Shubham Jadhav, 20, while the injured was identified as Hrishikesh Pawar, 18. Pawar was rushed to a private hospital in the area for treatment. Jadhav was taken to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) for post-mortem.  

While Pawar is a resident of Chinchwad, Jadhav was a resident of Kalewadi area in Pimpri. Jadhav was driving a silver colour Maruti Suzuki SX4, a light motor vehicle (LMV), registered in the name of a man identified only as Harshal Rane. 

“The deceased and the injured are maternal cousins. Jadhav had stayed over at Pawar’s house located in Empire Estate and they had gone out for early morning tea. Pawar’s uncle had left the key of the car at his house, so they decided to drive the car. We are yet to verify whether Jadhav had a licence,” said assistant police inspector DP Suryavanshi of Pimpri police station, who is investigating the case. 

The incident was registered at the Chinchwad police station. A case under Sections 279, 304(a), 338, 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 119/177 of the Motor Vehicle Act was registered at the Pimpri police station against Jadhav. The case was registered based on the statement recorded by Pawar.
