Death of a pillion: Symbi student dead after truck crashes into helmet-less biker

Ashish Pauskar, a Symbiosis Skills and Open University (SSOU) student and riding pillion on a moped with his friend Deepak Mokas, was knocked down to death by a truck near Mhalsakant chowk in Pradhikaran area of Nigdi, Pune on Thursday morning. The youngster had turned 18 only a day before last Thursday.
Pauskar’s friend Deepak Mokas, who was riding the moped was reportedly wearing earphones, but not a helmet on. He was severely injured in the accident. The duo were on their way to college when the incident happened.
The Nigdi police have arrested the truck driver, identified as Shivkumar Hariram Dange, 48, and resident of Madhya Pradesh. Dange was driving the truck back home when the accident happened, according to police inspector (crime) Shankar Avtade of Nigdi police station. He was booked under Section 304(a) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), for causing death due to negligence. The case is investigated by police sub-inspector (PSI) S Waghmare of Nigdi police station.
Pauskar was a final year student of mechatronics engineering at SSOU and had completed his education up till Class 10 from Amrita Vidyalayam, located in Nigdi.
The Pauskar family is originally from Bicholim in Goa and had shifted to Pune for work. Ashish lived with his younger sibling and mother while his father worked and stayed in Mumbai. The victim’s father work as an engineer at a multi-national company in Mumbai and his mother is a teacher at a computer institute in Pradhikaran.
