Gyaan Adab in association with Heart for Art presents a Cherial Mask workshop this weekend. Cherial Mask making is an art form from Telengana. Led by artist Saikiran Varma, this three hour session will consist of moulding, shaping and painting Cherial masks. Dhanaloka Saikiran Verma from Rangareddy district Telangana, studied Fine Arts from Sri Venkateshwara College of Fine Arts and chose to carry on with his family tradition of Cherial Scroll Painting and Mask Making. He has conducted multiple workshops across the country.
The workshop will have two parts: making the mask and painting it. Both the sections will be covered in three hours. All raw materials will be provided.
Heart for Art is a public charitable trust running an online portal for local artisans to project their craft in the urban market space. It also runs workshops across the country that are conducted by the local artisans; providing a common space for a dialogue between the traditional and the modern.

While the men do all the throwing in terracotta, the women handle all the surface decoration which in this northern Kutch village of Ludia is primarily in the form of painting.The workshop on this ‘Khavda’ - Terracotta Hand Painted Pottery will be conducted by master Potter and tribal art specialist Preeti Lokhande.
