A woman was killed while 12 others were injured in different road accidents in the district due to poor visibility on the first foggy morning of this winter season on Wednesday.
Two schoolchildren and drivers of a school van and a truck were injured when the vehicles collided at Bathinda –Mansa road.
The accident took place at about 7 am in the morning when the van of Delhi Public School on its way towards the city collided with a truck due to low visibility near Maisar Khana. The injured were rushed to civil hospital. Injured kids have been identified as Gopal and Aryan while two injured drivers have been identified as Gurmel Singh, resident of Ghuman Kalan and Gurwinder Singh from Sunam.
In another accident, a woman was killed while seven others, including a child and three woman were injured when a jeep fell into a water distributary near Krarwala on Bathinda – Chandigarh national highway in the morning.
The mishap took place when the deceased woman, who worked as a staff nurse in Krarwala primary health centre, was ferrying a pregnant lady to the health centre. Due to dense fog, the driver lost control and the vehicle fell into the water distributary. The woman tried to come out of the water but was swept away while the rest were rescued by the locals.
In another mishap, a man was injured when the car he was driving rammed into a stationary tractor trolley alongside road near Bhucho Khurd on Bathinda–Chandigarh national highway. The injured identified as Abinav Sharma, resident of Malout in Muktsar district was rushed to Bathinda civil hospital.
