Amritsar (rural) police on Thursday said one Rajinder Kumar had been arrested and 10 kg opium worth Rs 8 lakh allegeldy seized from him.

Amritsar (rural) SSP Manmoham Singh, said that SI Sanjeev Kumar, incharge of narcotics cell, made the seizure from the accused. During preliminary investigation, it was found that the Haryana police had siezed 4 kg opium from Rajinder in Panipat around two decades back. Rajinder is a resident of Lakhuwal village.

The accused had undergone imprisonment for a total of 11 years in Bhiwani, Ambala and Amritsar jails after his conviction in the above-mentioned case. After his release from Amritsar jail in 2007, the accused resumed smuggling of opium and brought four consignments of contraband from Rajasthan to Punjab so far, the SSP said.

The police officer alleged that the accused was in touch with his regular customers for the supply of contraband he had brought from Rajasthan. A case has been registered at Ramdas police station.
