The Border Security Force (BSF) nabbed two men with 1-kg heroin near Border Outpost (BOP) Basantar in Gurdaspur sector on Wednesday evening.
A BSF release issued here on Thursday stated that the heroin packet was recovered from a tractor-trolley laden with paddy at fencing gate No 48 during checking by BSF jawans. The drug was concealed in the paddy, which had been harvested earlier in the day and was being taken to the grain market.
The heroin had been smuggled from Pakistan and had been dumped in the area between the barbed wire fence and the international border. It was being transported to a 'safer' place when it was intercepted.
The owner of the tractor-trolley, Darshan Singh, and his worker, Jeet Masih, were taken into custody and were handed over to the Punjab Police. They were booked under the NDPS Act.
