Four persons were injured when a Gypsy they were travelling in got stuck in roadside trees after it was rammed from behind by an unidentified speeding truck at Sultanpur Lodhi near here on Monday.
Sources said that Malkit Singh of Lodhiwal village was on way to Dadwindi from Sultanpur Lodhi with his son and two womenfolk in his Gypsy (DL-3CC-0088) when a speeding truck hit the vehicle from behind opposite railway crossing near Fauji Colony.
The vehicle swerved and got stuck in trees, injuring the four occupants in the process. "It could have been worse had our vehicle fallen into the ditch along the road," said Malkit.
The injured were admitted at Sultanpur Lodhi Civil Hospital. The truck driver fled the spot, sources added.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old youth of Doulla village near Sultanpur Lodhi was fatally hit by a motorbike near here.
Police sources revealed that victim Balwinder Singh was returning home from his sister's village Mothanwala on foot when he was hit by a motorcycle. Balwinder was taken to hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police have arrested the biker Banta Ram of Raiwal village in Shahkot tehsil.
