Tarn Taran Police have seized a total of one kg heroin from two arrested persons who are said to be part of a ten-member gang.
While half a kg of contraband was allegedly seized from main accused Jassa Singh, an equal quantity was seized from another member of the gang, who was arrested on Thursday.
A couple of weeks ago, Tarn Taran police had arrested five persons, including a woman, and seized 2.5 kg heroin, two countrymade pistols, five cartridges and Rs 18 lakh from their possession. A case had was registered at Sarai Amanat Khan police station in this regard. During susbsequent questioning of the arrested accused, police seized another half kg heroin and a Pakistani SIM card along with mobile phones from Jassa Singh.
On Thursday, police arrested another gang member Manpreet Singh and seized half kg heroin from his possession.
ASI Sukhdev Singh of CIA Staff said that the accused used the mobile phones to contact Pakistan-based smugglers Ashiq and Kallu to get the consignments from across the border. "They delivered the heroin to other cities of the state," he said.
He said that six of the ten members of this gang, including a woman, have been arrested while others were still at large. "Raids are on at the possible hideouts of the absconding accused to nab them," the ASI added.
