Nearly 10 people were injured when a private bus overturned after hitting a car on the new bypass near Verka. No casualty was reported. The police have registered a case against bus driver Sukhbir Singh of Ajnala and moved the injured to hospital.

"Sukhbir was driving the bus on the wrong side of the road, even though the path had a divider,"

said sub-inspector Puran Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Verka. The accident occurred when the bus was on way from Batala to Amritsar.

The damaged car belonged to Jalandhar lawyer Gurnam Singh, who had come over to his relatives in Amritsar and was on way to Batala.

All the injured are out of danger, while the bus has fled. A hunt for him is on.
