As many as 10 people were taken ill by jaundice in four localities of the city on Saturday. Local residents accused the administration and the municipal council of supplying contaminated drinking water.

Residents of Mohalla Shoria, Sharda Mohalla, Laroiya Mohalla and Lal Chowk were reportedly affected by the disease.

Rekha Rani was admitted at the Dayanand Medical College (DMC), Ludhiana, while others are undergoing treatment at local private hospitals.

After the residents complained, Nawanshahr municipal council officials rushed to these areas and started locating fault in water supply so that residents get clean drinking water.

Health officials said the supply of contaminated water could be behind the outbreak of the disease. District health officer Garja Singh said teams would conduct house-to-house survey on Sunday.
