Patiala: The district administration distributed bicycles to girls studying in Classes 11 and 12 of government schools in Patiala on Monday. Deputy commissioner (DC) Varun Roojam said 11,031 bicycles were distributed to needy students who belong to economically weaker section families.
Roojam said the motive of the scheme is to motivate the economically weaker sections of the society so that the students are not forced to quit their studies due to financial hardships. While providing the details, Roojam said 640 and 545 bicycles were respectively distributed to Class 11 and Class 12 students of Ghanour government school.
1,068 bicycles were given to girl students of Class 11 and 921 bicycles to Class 12 students of government school at Nabha. At Rajpura government school, 469 bicycles were given to Class 11 students and 647 bicycles were distributed to Class 12 students. At Sanour government school, 734 and 595 bicycles were respectively distributed to Class 11 and Class 12 students. 341 students of Class 11 and 294 students of Class 12 received bicycles at Shutrana government school.
1,325 bicycles for Class 11 students and 1,218 bicycles for Class 12 students were distributed in Patiala city and 471 bicycles were given to Class 11students and 435 bicycles were distributed to Class 12 students in Patiala rural.
