11 booked in cases of rape, assault in Bathinda

In two cross cases, the police have booked as many as 11 people. One of them has been booked on charges of rape while the others for beating up a member of the rival group.

In a complaint with the police, a woman of Pathrala village under Sangat police station, alleged that Hardev Singh, a resident of the same village, entered her house forcibly on December 5 and raped her.

She alleged that after the incident, Hardev Singh, with his brother Gurmail Singh and Pinki Singh, residents of the same village; Amit Singh from Deepa Bangi and Chhinda, allegedly beat her up and took away her gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 67,000.

However, on a separate complaint by Gurmail Singh, the police have booked Sukhpal Singh, Rachhpal Singh, Ran Singh, Raju Singh, Premi Singh and Jeeti Singh alleging that they abducted him on December 5 and beat him up.

Sukhpal is husband of the alleged rape victim woman and other accused are also her relatives. Investigation officer Sukhpal Singh at Sangat police station said that they were inquiring into the matter.
