110 handicapped people examined at prosthetic camp at Abohar

The Seth Shankar Dass Daulat Ram Nagpal Charitable Trust organised the 22nd prosthetic and medical checkup camp here on Sunday.
Rakesh Arora, Deputy Director, Health Department, Punjab, inaugurated the camp. Technical experts from Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahayata Samiti, famous for making Jaipur Foot, examined 110 physically handicapped people. 10 people were selected for fixing artificial lower limbs. The measurements were taken by a team of the Ambala branch of the samiti, led by Captain RL Handa. Ten more handicapped persons were provided calipers and five crutches.
Philanthropist Jagdish Chander Nagpal, president of the trust, said that the prosthetic limbs would soon be provided at a follow-up camp.
Captain RL Handa, in-charge of the Lala Durga Charan Charitable Artificial Limb Centre, Ambala, speaking on the occasion, said that the centre provides free prosthetic limbs to handicapped people of six states of the north. For this purpose, free camps are organised with the cooperation of philanthropists and NGOs.
Besides at camps, the centre provides free limbs to all the handicapped reaching the Ambala branch.
Blood samples of 100 patients were also taken to check their sugar level.
