12 of two wedding parties killed in road accidents in Himachal
A total of 14 people died in four separate incidents in Himachal Pradesh
At least 12 members of two different wedding parties were killed in separate road accidents in Kullu and Mandi districts of Himachal Pradesh, officials said on Monday.
Six people were killed when the car they were travelling in was hit by a massive landslide at Overi in Nirmand tehsil of Kullu district on Sunday night.
Kullu additional superintendent of police (ASP) Nischint Negi said Indian Army soldiers from the Overi camp and a team from Brau police station rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident.
“The car was crushed under heavy boulders. The rescue team had a tough time retrieving the bodies,” said Negi.
The victims were on their way to Pujarli village in Shimla district to attend a wedding, he added.
The dead have been identified as Kabhu Ram, 28, of Jhimara village in Nirmand, Sita Ram, 48, Sita Devi, 38, and Manjeet, 13. All of them were residents of Duttnagar in Rampur sub-division of Shimla district.
Two bodies are yet to be identified.
In another accident at Kangoo in Mandi district, six people were killed and eight injured after the tempo traveller they were travelling on the Chandigarh-Manali highway plunged into a gorge.
Mandi superintendent of police (SP) Ashok Kumar said victims were returning home after attending a wedding function at a hotel in Sundernagar.
Kumar said that the driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to save a motorcycle-borne person coming from the opposite side. Police have registered a case.
Mahender Pal Dakkar, Rani, Nilam Meddi, Dharmpal and Sashi Oberai, who were from Ambala Cantonment in Haryana, were killed in the accident. One body is yet to be identified.
Two more killed in Kullu
Two more people were killed in Kullu district in separate incidents. A woman of Mandi district died on the spot after a car in which she was travelling collided with a stationary truck. Three other people in the car were also injured.
A child was killed when a car driven by his father skidded off the road in Banjar area of the same district, killing him on the spot.
