12-year-old, sibling killed in mishap

A 12-year-old boy and his five-year-old sister were killed when a truck rammed into an auto rickshaw on the national highway this afternoon. The deceased have been identified as Baljit Singh and Sukhbir Kaur. Their parents Narinder Singh and Ranbir Kaur were injured in the mishap.

A 12-year-old boy and his five-year-old sister were killed when a truck rammed into an auto rickshaw on the national highway this afternoon. The deceased have been identified as Baljit Singh and Sukhbir Kaur. Their parents Narinder Singh and Ranbir Kaur were injured in the mishap.


Station house officer Chatiwind police station Kamaljit Singh said, "The accident took place at around 1:00 PM. A truck hit an auto coming from the Jandiala side. The impact was such that both the children fell out of the auto and were crushed under the truck's tyres."

The SHO added that the kids' father Narinder Singh was driving the auto.

"We have arrested the truck driver Jagtar Singh and a case has been registered against him."

The Jandiala-based family was on its way to pay obeisance at a gurudwara, the police said.
