On a complaint by a woman, the police have booked 13 persons, including her in-laws and members related to her in-laws' family, for publicly molesting her, beating her and for threatening to eliminate her, on Saturday.

The accused have been identified as Harvinder Singh (husband), Rajwant Kaur and Avtar Singh (mother-in-law and father-in-law, respectively), Karamjit Kaur, resident of Dera Meer Meera, Sukhjit Kaur, resident of Raipur Gujran, Angrez Singh, Sapinder Kaur, Taranpreet Singh and Babbal, residents of Patiala, Triptpal Singh and Amandeep Kaur, residents of Bibipur village and Neeti and Babbi, residents of Fatehgarh Sahib.

In the complaint, the woman Manjit Kaur, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, alleged that all the 13 accused had together rounded her up, following which they molested and beat her up mercilessly. She said her in-laws had been harassing her for not bringing more dowry, besides saying they would eliminate her if she did not do the same.

The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage a woman's modesty), 498A (husband or relative subjecting a woman to cruelty and torture), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons) and 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of offence in prosecution of a common object) of the Indian Penal Code. However, no arrests have been made so far.
