A 13 year old girl, who was returning from tuition, was raped and murdered by unidentified persons at Gaura village in Amargarh town of Punjab's Sangrur district on Monday evening.
Amargarh is adjoining town to Malerkotla, where about a week ago, a 12 year old boy was burnt alive and triggered tension. That case is yet to be solved.
The murder of girl, a class 8th student of Government Senior Secondry School, was so brutal that the accused hit the girl with brick on her head and face to conceal her identity.
Her body was found on the fields with severe injury marks on the head, police said, adding that a case of rape and murder has been registered.
Medical board of doctors, conducted the postmortem at Civil Hospital, Malekotla and vicera has been sent to the forensic lab for examination.
“Police have included the charges of rape, as submitted by the parents, but medical board in physical examination has found no sign of sexual assault. However we are probing the incident with all angles including attempt to rape”, said SSP Mandeep Singh Sihdu. He said that a combing operation has been launched to nab the unidentified persons and anti-social elements.
The girl, who lived in Gaura village of the district, had gone for tuition and when she did not return, her family informed police after which a search was launched. During the search, the family located the cycle of girl on a kutcha road in between the fields and her body was found after a brief search in the fileds.
The murder has been committed in between 6.30 to 7.30 PM, as girl left the house of a class mate at 6.00 PM after attending tuition and visiting a temple. The residence of the girl is in agricultural fields, where only few residence are built and accused finding her alone committed the crime, said SSP.
Sources said that police has rounded two drug addicts from the area, who were roaming near the site of crime. “We are probing the incident and accused would be nabbed soon”, said SSP refusing to divulge the details.
Meanwhile, the dead body of the girl was handed over to parents for the cremation.
