A mentally-challenged 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped at Bambhi Bhai village under Baghapurana subdivision, 42 km from the district headquarters on Thursday.

The police have booked Rajpreet Singh alias Babbu of the same village in this connection. However, no arrest has been made so far.

Gurpiar Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Smalsar police station, said that the victim's father had complained to the police that Babbu called his mentally-challenged daughter at his home to buy yogurt from a nearby shop. "But, he raped her at his home and threatened to kill her if she told anybody about the incident. The victim's father mentioned in his complaint," said SHO.

According to the police, the victim was brought to Dr Mathura Dass Pahwa civil hospital to conduct medical examination.

"We are waiting for a detailed medical report at the moment. However, a case has been registered against Rajpreet Singh of Bambhi Bhai under section 376 of Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act-2012 at Smalsar police station. Further investigation is underway," said the police official.
