13-yr-old Panchkula boy commits suicide in Faridkot juvenile home

Veeru, 13, son of Vishnu, a resident of Indira Colony, Panchkula, who was lodged in a juvenile home in Faridkot after he was arrested by the Mohali police, allegedly committed suicide in the bathroom of the home this afternoon.

The victim was reportedly booked under section 454 (lurking house-trespass or housebreaking in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) by the Mohali police some time ago.

Chinderpal Kaur, child development and project officer, (CDPO), Faridkot, who is incharge of the home, confirmed the incident and said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered to probe the incident.

However, no reason for the suicide could be ascertained.

The victim was rushed to the local civil hospital first where he was declared brought dead, reports said. “I am not aware of the incident. However, I am going to get it checked,” said Sukhminder Singh Mann, senior superintendent of police.

The incident comes within days of a 17-year-old committing suicide in an observation home at Ludhiana on September 8.

The juvenile had committed suicide by hanging self from the grills of the skylight in the bathroom where he had gone to take a bath and hung himself with a turban. The deceased belonged to Butari village was lodged at a juvenile home on September 5 for lifting a vehicle along with another person.

The family of the juvenile had suspected foul play in his death.
