The process for admission to Class 11 at Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students is on, but only 130 students have applied for a total of 1,000 seats at the school, where classes will commence from July 1.

Earlier, the last date for submitting the forms was June 21, but it has now been extended to June 30.

From Ludhiana district, more than 500 students have scored 80% marks and were eligible for getting admission to this school, but only 130 have applied till now.

As many as 24 students from Gover nment Model Senior Secondary School, PAU, and seven from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Cemetery Road, have applied for admission to the school.

Talking to Hindustan Times, MIS coordinator Davinder Singh said, “June 21 was the last date to send the forms to us and we have received 130 forms. Students, who have scored above 80% and belong to other districts of Punjab, are also eligible for admission. By next week we will get a clear idea that how many students from other districts have applied. Apart from Ludhiana, five other meritorious schools will come up in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala, SAS Nagar and Bathinda, so students can apply there also.”

A parent, requesting anonymity, said, “It is not clear whether or not the students will be eligible for the Dr Hargobind Khurana Post Matric scholarship at meritorious school.”

When contacted, director public instructions (schools) Kamal Garg said that the students will not get the scholarship.

“We are yet to take a decision on whether or not to admit day scholars in the school. Till now we have not received any such request,” he said.
