punjab Updated: Feb 02, 2013 12:22 IST

Furious over the marriage of a woman against her family's will, her two brothers and uncles, along with their accomplices, allegedly abducted her from her house at Santokh Nagar of Salem Tabri area on Wednesday.

The Salem Tabri police have registered a case of assault and abduction against her brothers, Ankush and Deepu, uncle Bittu and 12 other unidentified accused.

The victim has been identified as Neha (21) of Kochar Market area.

In her complaint to the police, Suman Jain, mother-in-law of the victim, said her son, Litesh Jain, married Neha around one-and-a-half-years ago against the will of both families.

The couple was also provided security by the Punjab and Haryana high court, as the couple was suspecting danger from their families.

However, the couple had surrendered the security after their families came to terms with their decision.

Suman said however, the parents of her daughter-in-law breached the compromise and abducted her from their house on January 19 and took her to Jalandhar.

However, Neha managed to escape from Jalandhar and returned home on Wednesday.

The accused came back for Neha on Wednesday, and assaulted the complainant's family members, before abducting Neha, she alleged.

Inspector Dharampal, SHO, Salem Tabri police station, said the police were conducting raids to arrest the accused.
