14 booked on charge of murder attempt on newly elected councillor

Police have booked 14 persons for allegedly trying to murder Ram Chawla, the newly-elected councillor from ward number 49. A case was registered against Kuldeep Sharma alias Deepu Pehalwan and Gora, besides 12 unidentified persons

Police have booked 14 persons for allegedly trying to murder Ram Chawla, the newly-elected councillor from ward number 49.


A case was registered against Kuldeep Sharma alias Deepu Pehalwan and Gora, besides 12 unidentified persons under Sections 307, 341, 506, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code at Civil Lines police station.

Chawla, the son of Baldev Raj Chawla, chairman of Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, alleged that he had gone to pay obeisance at the Durgiana Temple after winning the municipal election, when he was attacked.

Assistant sub-inspector Prem Pal, in-charge of Durgiana Temple police post, said according to the councillor, he was surrounded by 14 persons and ran to police post to save his life.
