As part of a special drive against drug peddlers, the local police on Sunday arrested 12 accused in 13 separate cases on Sunday.
The police recovered contrabands from the possession of 15 accused. However, one of the accused, a woman, managed to escape. A total of 20 kg poppy husk, 1.8 kg narcotic powder, 609 gm smack, 125 sedative pills, 15 bottles of sedative syrup and four sedative capsules were seized during the drive.
The Division Number 1 police arrested Manoj Kumar of Motihari of Bihar, from Rishi Chowk after recovering 500 gm narcotic powder from his possession. Model Town police station arrested Kulwant Singh of Fateh Singh Nagar, and recovered 4.5 kg poppy husk from him.
Sonu Kumar of Inder Colony from Gopal Nagar area was arrested by the Basti Jodhewal police station. 220 gm narcotic powder was recovered from his possession. The police also arrested Ravi Kumar of Mohalla Sandiyan from Sundar Nagar area. He was found in possession of 500 gm narcotic powder.
Sahnewal police station arrested Kuldeep Singh of Khakat village after he was found carrying 100 gm narcotic powder.
Dehlon police station booked a woman, Vatira of Rangian village, for drug peddling after she was found carrying 500 gm poppy husk, 125 sedative pills and four sedative capsules. However, the woman managed to flee the spot.
Balwinder Singh alias Prince of Friends Colony of Jamalpur, was arrested after 250 gm narcotic powder was recovered from his possession. Meharban police station have registered a case against him.
Moti Nagar police station arrested Davinder Singh alias Neeta of New Moti Nagar, and recovered 100 gm narcotic powder from his possession. Daba police station arrested Vipan Kumar of Salem Tabri, and recovered 9 gm smack and 130 gm narcotic powder from his possession.
Focal Point police station nabbed three persons - Lallan Shah of Prem Nagar, Shambhu Parsad of Giaspura, and Dhananjay Mistri of Prem Nagar, in three separate cases and recovered 600 gm smack, 5 kg poppy husk and 15 bottles of sedative syrup from their possession, respectively.
The Jamalpur police station arrested Manjit Singh alias Meeta of Preet Nagar, and recovered 10 kg poppy husk from his possession.
Tattoo artist arrested with narcotic powder
The anti-narcotic and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing arrested a tattoo artist, Munish Rai (23) of Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar, and recovered 100 gm narcotic powder from his possession on Saturday. The accused owns a tattoo shop on the back side of Ansal Plaza.
According to sub-inspector Harbans Singh, incharge at anti-narcotic and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing, Rai was arrested from the T-point at Sham Nagar on Sunday. The accused was passing by in a car and tried to escape when the police signalled him to stop for checking. A chase ensued and the police nabbed him. On being frisked, narcotic powder was recovered from Rai's possession. A case under sections 22, 61, 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against him at Division Number 5 police station in this regard.
Sub-inspector Singh claimed that the accused confessed that he used to sell the narcotic powder among visitors at his shop. The accused possessed a criminal record, he added.
