A 14-year-old girl was gangraped by three men in Mandi Ahmedgarh town of Sangrur district on Monday afternoon.
Acting on the girl's complaint, the police registered a case late on Monday night and arrested the trio on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Abhi and Surjit Sharma, both local residents, and Malkeet Singh of Mini Chappar village in Sangrur district. They are labourers in their 20s and married.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Satnam Singh Virk said the girl was on her way to the local anganwari centre around 1pm on Monday when Abhi, who lives in the victim's locality, reached the spot along with Malkeet and took her away on a motorcycle.
They brought her to Sharma's residence in the ward number 4 here, where the trio repeatedly raped her.
The girl narrated the incident to her mother, following which the family approached the police.
Virk said the girl's medical examination, conducted at the local government hospital, had confirmed rape.
"We have arrested the accused and would seek their remand from the local court," he confirmed.
The police have registered the case under Section 376-D (where person is sexually assaulted by one or more than one persons constituting a group in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
