Police arrested a man for raping a 14-year-old daughter of a neighbour of his relative in Gagandeep Colony of Basti Jodhewal.

The accused has been identified as Diljot Singh (26), a resident of Preet Nagar of Tibba road, who was visiting his relatives in Gagandeep Colony.

In his complaint, the victim's father alleged that his daughter, a student of Class 7, was alone in the house on Friday when the accused barged into their house and outraged the modesty of the girl.

When he returned home in the evening, he was shocked to see the accused raping his daughter. He raised the alarm and nabbed the accused with the help of other neighbours.

He immediately sounded the police and handed over the accused to them. Sub-inspector Kamal Dutt from the Basti Jodhewal police station, who is investigating the matter, said the police have registered a case under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.
