With an aim to bring more transparency, the municipal corporation commissioner transferred 147 officials of different branches of the MC.
As per information provided by the MC, 13 superintendents majority of whom are working under house tax wings have been transferred to other zone from their current zone. As many as 96 clerks and 38 inspector-level officials have also been transferred to other zones of the MC.
The superintendents, include Surinderpal Singh, Rohit Kumar, Tejinderpal Singh Panchi, Jasdev Singh Sekhon, Naveen Malhotra, Neeraj Jain, Sanjeev Uppal, Rajiv Bharadwaj, Opinderjit Singh, KP Singh, Tarun Goyal, Harvinder Singh and Manoj Kumar.
As per sources, these transfers were done on the directions of MC commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agarwal, who wanted to bring more transparency in the working of the MC.
Agarwal said, “The transfers had not been done since long, so I decided to shift these officials. There are still some officials, who have not been transferred for long period, and they will be transferred soon. If I transfer the whole staff in one go, then system could collapse.”
Earlier, the commissioner had transferred staff of building branch to bring transparency. Sources said many people complained about the officials for not listening to their issues.
Councillors also welcomed the decision. Ward number 55 councillor Balkar Singh said, “I appreciate the step taken by MC commissioner. The officials should be transferred from time to time as per norms to bring transparency in work.”
