15 arrested for selling drugs in Moga

The Moga police have arrested 14 persons for allegedly possessing poppy husk, 'chitta' (a chemical drug), home-made liquor and heroin during raids in various parts of the district on Tuesday morning, while two smugglers managed to fled from the spot.

Police have seized 2.45 quintal poppy husk from a Tats Safari vehicle and arrested three persons, including a woman, in this connection during a special raid conducted at near Kot-Ise-Khan under Dharamkot subdivision

Hardeep Singh, in-charge of the Crime Investigating Agency (CIA) staff said, "Acting on a tip-off that some notorious smugglers were entered in the area for selling poppy husk. As soon as we received this information, we raided immediately and arrested all people. The value of the recovered drug is worth `6 lakh in international market,"said police.

According to police, the arrested have been identified as Gurpreet Singh Sonu, Kuldeep Singh Goldy and Harmeet Kaur, all residents of Fatehgarh, were allegedly trying to sell drugs outside their village.

"We have also arrested Pappu Singh, a resident of Sanghera village, with 10gm heroin,"said police.Nachhattar Singh, a resident of Daudhar village under Nihal Singh Wala subdivision, was arrested with 5 kg poppy husk near Lopo village early on Tuesday morning.

Police said a woman, Chhindo Tara of Kot-Ise-Khan village, was also arrested with 5 kg poppy husk near Galoti village. "We have also seized `35, 800 from her possession. Primary investigations revealed that she had been into illegal job for the past several years,"said police.

Ram Lobhaia, in charge of the Kishanpura police post, said Satnam Singh, a resident of Gatti Jattan village, was arrested and 550gm'chitta' was allegedly seized from his possession. "He was riding a motorcycle for selling this drug to villages in Dharamkot subdivision. We are investigation into the matter and hope that some more smugglers will fall in our net soon,"he added.

"During a special raid at Gatti Jattan village, police recovered 100 bottles of liquor while accused Angrej Singh and Raju Singh fled from the spot,"said police.

Jatinder Singh, a resident of Moga, was arrested allegedly with 10gm heroin near Ghal Kalan village on Tuesday. Police have also recovered a motorcycle from his possession.

Police officials said 40gm 'chitta' was seized allegedly from the possession of a woman, Jaspreet Kaur, of Mari Mustfa village under Baghapurana subdivision, during a raid on Tuesday afternoon.

"Surjit Singh of Bhoenpur village was also arrested with 40 gram 'chitta' near Dharamkot area. He was going to sell the drug,"said Bhola Singh, assistant sub-inspector at the Dharamkot police station.

Hardev Singh, a resident of Dhudike village, and Kiran Singh Bitta were arrested allegdy with 12 and 9 bottles, of home-made liquor, respectively, near Phulewala canal bridge under Baghapurana.
Several cases have been registered at various police stations.
