As many as 15 people were injured when a speeding Punjab roadways bus they were travelling in rammed into a truck sideways while overtaking a vehicle near Dhuri in Sangrur on Friday morning.
Five of the injured were hospitalised while others were administered first aid. The bus was on its way to Ludhiana from Sangrur.
Mohammad Ramzan, one of the injured passengers, said the bus was moving very fast and while overtaking a vehicle it hit a truck coming from the opposite side hit on its right side. The impact led to shattering of the windowpanes, and some people also complained of glass shards entering their eyes. Ramzan said despite calling the ambulance 108 many times, no help came. Finally, the injured were taken to hospital in the car of assistant labour commissioner RS Randhawa, who was on his way to Sangrur.
The bus driver, who too reportedly received minor injuries, fled after the accident. Police have initiated proceedings.
