A 15-year-old mentally challenged girl was allegedly raped by her 21-year-old neighbour in Sanjay Gandhi Colony on Wednesday.
The neighbours nabbed the accused and handed him over to the police. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences act (POCSO) against the accused, who has been identified as Arun Kumar (21). The accused works as an assistant with a photographer.
The case was registered following the statement of the victim’s father, who told the police that his 15-year-old daughter went missing on Wednesday evening after which he started searching for her with the help of area residents.
During the search, they found the girl’s dupatta near the door of Arun Kumar’s house.
“We asked Arun to open the door, which was bolted from inside. After persistent knocking, he opened the door. But when people asked him about the girl, he acted innocent,” the girl’s father told the police.
Inspector Hemant Kumar, SHO at police station Division number 7, said when people searched the room they found the girl hidden under the bed in a semi-nude state.
The accused tried to flee the room, but the crowd nabbed him and handed him to the police.
On being informed, the police reached at the spot and arrested the accused. The accused was produced before the court on Thursday from where he was sent to judicial remand.
