A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a jeweller after rendering her unconscious by giving her sedative laced tea at his home.
The Daresi police have filed a case against the suspect, identified as Pawan Dhir, a resident of Bawa colony in Durga Puri, Haibowal, under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
In her complaint lodged with the police on Monday, the girl stated Dhir had called her to his house in Raman Enclave in Rishi Nagar on September 4.
She said when she arrived there he offered her tea laced with sedatives after drinking which she soon lost consciousness.
She said when she came to she realised she had been raped, adding when she confronted Dhir he threatened her with dire consequences if she did not keep quiet about the incident.
According to Daresi police station house officer inspector Om Parkash, the girl’s family members were acquainted with the jeweller.
“The case against Dhir was filed after an inquiry into the incident was conducted by the assistant commissioner of police (central). The police have launched a manhunt to nab the suspect,” Om Parkash said.
