18 injured as private bus overturns in Bathinda

Eighteen passengers on board a private bus were injured when it overturned near Jeeda village on the Goniana-Bajakahana Road on Friday at 8:30am.

The bus (PB 03 AF 0574) driver tried to take a sharp turn to save a motorcycle (PB 3 A 4402) that swerved ahead of it in an attempt to get on to the main road from a link road. The Shubhdeep Transport bus was on its way from Jaitu in Faridkot district to Bathinda.

Ten of the injured had been admitted at the Community Health Centre, Goniana, of which one of the seriously injured was referred to the Bathinda civil hospital.

The injured have been identified as Dilbag Singh, Jagsir Singh, Vijay Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Amandeep Kaur, Mandeep Singh, Malkit Kaur, Jaswinder Kaur and Sukhjit Kaur, all residents of Jeeda village. The motorcyclist, identified as Najam Singh from Gidderbaha in Muktsar district, was also injured in the mishap and was taken to a hospital. Seriously injured passenger Natha Singh was referred to Bathinda civil hospital.

The police had not registered any case till the filing of the report and the motorcycle driver was also yet to be identified, even though an assistant sub-inspector Krishan Singh recounted the sequence of events that led to the accident.
