18 Punjab officers promoted to IAS

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Thursday cleared the names of 18 Punjab Civil Service officers for promotion to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

The names were cleared by the selection committee comprising two representatives each from the UPSC, state government and the department of personnel and training (DoPT) that met in Delhi.

Though chief secretary Karan Avtar Singh, who attended the meeting, said the names are to be kept “secret” till a formal notification is issued by UPSC, the officers whose names are learnt to have been cleared for promotion include Sanjay Popli, Amarpal Singh, Babita, Mohinder Pal, Gurpreet Khaira, Puneet Goyal, Gurinderpal Singh Sahota, Tej Pratap Singh Phoolka, Madhavi Kataria, Vimal Setia, Gurpal Chahal, Sandeep Hans and Davinder Singh.

The state government had sent the names of 54 PCS officers in the consideration zone and 18 of these have been cleared, said sources. The meeting was fixed twice earlier, but got postponed.
