In yet another incident reflecting how unsafe women are in the city, an 18-year-old girl was abducted from her house by four men and raped in a moving car on Sunday night.
The accused after raping her threw her out of the car near Gurdwara Nanaksar Sahib before fleeing.
The victim, a resident of New Shakti Nagar, then made a complaint to the police control room.
While the main accused has been identified as Happy of New Shakti Nagar, his accomplices are Yogesh, Neji, while the fourth accused is unidentified.
In her complaint, the victim alleged that Happy knocked the door of her house on Sunday night. At that time her parents were sleeping, so she answered the door. But as soon as she came out, Happy, along with his three accomplices, gagged her and forcibly took her in a car.
She alleged that Happy then raped her in the moving car, while his accomplice drove the car around the city. Later, the men threw her near Gurdwara Nanaksar on Samrala Road and fled in the car.
The Basti Jodhewal police have registered a case against the accused under section 376 (rape) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Satnam Singh at Basti Jodhewal police station, said the police had launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.
