To crack whip on the underage drivers, the traffic police issued challans to 19 persons on Monday. Check-points were established near several schools of the city where the police also impounded seven vehicles.
Inspector Gagandeep Singh, zone incharge, said the police and the district administration had initiated a special drive to curb such activities near Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, and Guru Nanak Public School. The challans were issued to the drivers of two cars, two scooters and a few bikers. Seven vehicles were impounded for not having documents, he said.
The inspector said that the school managements as well as the parents had been advised not to allow the students to drive vehicles. The drive would continue in future as well, he added.
