2 arrested for selling illegal liquor at exorbitant prices

City police arrested two men at Sanjay Gandhi Colony, Tajpur Road, for selling illegal liquor at exorbitant prices, here on Tuesday evening.

City police arrested two men at Sanjay Gandhi Colony, Tajpur Road, for selling illegal liquor at exorbitant prices, here on Tuesday evening.

Police recovered 21 boxes of liquor from the possession of Raj Kumar, resident of Basti Jodhewal and Rajveer Arora, resident of Tibba Road, as they were transporting it in a Santro car. While the duo was arrested, one of their accomplices managed to flee from the spot.

The police had received specific information regarding the accused duo, after which they had installed a check-point in the area.

Mahinder Singh, sub inspector of Crime Investigation Agency 2, said, "The accused were on their way to sell the country-made and foreign liquor to customers. They had procured the liquor from Gobindgarh on cheap rates and sold them on high rates in Ludhiana."

A case against has been registered under Section 61-1-14 (recovery of illegal liquor) of the Indian Penal Code.
