The local police on Sunday arrested two men for abducting and raping a 19-year-old woman before strangulating her to death.
The incident came to light on Sunday as the decomposed body of the Arjan Dev Nagar woman, a teacher at a private school, who had gone missing on December 5, was found from Dhandhran Road.
A passerby noticed the body and sounded the police. The girl’s family had lodged a missing report at Sherpur police post as she did not return from school that day.
After identifying the body, the police suspected Sanjay Kumar (22) of Kamla Nagar and arrested him. The accused confessed to his crime. Following the information provided by him, the police arrested his accomplice Jatinder Kumar (40) of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
Focal Point station house officer (SHO) Kanwarjit Singh said the accused used to stalk the victim. Around a year ago, the family had complained to the police following which the accused had apologised in a written statement at the police station.
The SHO said the accused had confessed that he, along with Jatinder, had abducted the girl from Dholewal area and taken her to Dhandhran Road. They gangraped her at an abandoned plot and strangulated her to death with her dupatta before dumping the body there.
Sanjay assists a commission agent at a fruit market while Jatinder runs a cycle repair shop.
