2 held with 260-kg poppy husk

Police here have arrested two members of a gang for allegedly carrying 260-kg poppy husk worth Rs 2 lakh on Sunday morning.

Police here have arrested two members of a gang for allegedly carrying 260-kg poppy husk worth Rs 2 lakh on Sunday morning. The accused were on their way to Bathinda.

Bathinda SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that two of the accused managed to escape, while the arrested accused have been identified as Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Muktsar, and Shiv Dutt, a resident of Fazilka district. The absconding have been identified as Harinder Singh from Muktsar and Sukhchain Singh, a resident of Chansar Basti in Bathinda.

During interrogation, the accused have stated that the contraband was bought from Hisar in Haryana at Rs 800 per kg. The gang planned to sell it in the state at Rs 1,500 per kg. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, has been has been registered against the accused. Police are searching files to see if the accused have been involved in other cases of drug trafficking in the state.
