In a broad daylight robbery, two persons received bullet injuries after unidentified assailants barged into a jewellery shop and decamped with `5 lakh in the Chowk Mehta area, 40 km from Amritsar, on Monday.
The police claim to have got vital clues and were conducting raids to nab the suspects.
Giving details, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amritsar (rural), Jasdeep Singh said: “Four persons entered the jewellery shop in the Chowk Mehta area saying they wanted to buy dollars as the shop owner was also in the money exchange business. When the shop owner, Shivam, took out the bag containing money, the suspects tried to snatch it. When Shivam resisted, the assailants shot him in the leg with a .32-bore revolver.”
While fleeing, the suspects fired again and a bullet hit a person, identified as Jaswinder Singh of Amritsar, who was standing near his car outside the jewellery shop, said the SSP.
Claiming that police have got some vital clues, the SSP said: “There are many eyewitnesses in the case as it is a busy market area. After recording statements, we are preparing sketches of the suspects. We have also stepped up surveillance in the area.”
Meanwhile, the injured have been admitted to Sri Guru Ram Das Hospital in the Chowk Mehta area and their condition is stated to be out of danger.
