Two persons were killed and 11 others were injured in a road mishap on the Rupnagar-Nangal road near Ghanauli village, about 10km from here, on Friday night.
According to the police, the accident took place around 1.30am when a tempo traveller (DL1VA-8948) rammed into a truck (HP69A-7149) stationed on the road from behind.
The driver of the tempo traveller, going to SAS Nagar from Delhi, reportedly lost control over the vehicle due to bursting of the tyre, resulting in a mishap.
Tempo traveller driver Kamal Garg, 34, and Maria Maya, 45, both residents of Delhi, died on the spot, while 10 others sustained injuries.
The injured were rushed to the Rupnagar civil hospital, from where five critically-injured were rushed to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.
The injured were identified as Rony, Roshan, Reena, Rosy, Jennifer, Wisney Phillip, Abrahim Mathew, Amarya, Godwin and Jaswin.
Meanwhile, after impounding the truck, the police have registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337(causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338(causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 427(mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code against the truck driver.
The bodies were handed over to their families after post-mortem.
