Just a day after a youth was murdered at Kakkowal Road, two persons were allegedly found murdered in separate incidents in the city on Sunday. The murders have stunned the city residents and left the police in a tizzy.

In the first case, security guard Harminder Singh Bajwa (55) alias Billa, was found strangulated to death in a house in Model Town Extension area on Sunday morning.

The house is located near that of Charanjit Singh Atwal, speaker, Punjab legislative assembly.

Prima facie, the police suspect it to be the handiwork of a duo who were known to the deceased.

The marks of strangulation were apparent on the neck of the deceased. The police recovered a half empty liquor bottle and two glasses near the body.

Two mobile phones of the deceased were missing.

The deceased was working with a security agency for the past seven years. He was hired by an industrialist Inderjit Singh alias Gora for the security of his house at Model Town extension.

According to Inderjit, Harminder used to stand guard at his house during the day and used to spend the night at his other house in the same locality.

Inderjit told the police that he had been calling Harminder since Sunday morning, but his mobile phone was switched off.

When he could not contact him till afternoon, he went to look for him.

He reached his other house, he was shocked to find Harminder lying on the floor, following which he sounded the police.

According to sub-inspector Pawan Kumar, additional station house inspector (SHO), division no 5, the two suspects were known to the victim, as they all consumed liquor together before the crime.

"Inderjit says no one from the deceased's family had ever come to visit Harminder in the last two and half years. However we found that a girl had been visiting him for the past few months, who is supposedly his niece," the SI said.

"We have asked the security agency to provide the deceased's address and his family members' phone numbers. As nothing in the house was found missing, it seems to be a case of personal rivalry," he added.

In another incident, a labourer was also found strangulated to death at his rented accommodation in Abdullapur Basti on Sunday.

According to Model Town police, marks on the neck of the deceased indicated that the suspect used a rope to strangulate the victim.

Police claimed the murder to be a result of personal rivalry.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjay (22), who originally hailed from Gaunda district of Uttar Pradesh.

Sanjay used to whitewash buildings for a living.

Bhagat Ram, father of the deceased, found his son lying dead on the bed in his room, when he returned from work on Sunday.

He immediately informed the owner of the house and sounded the police.

A team comprising additional commissioner of police (Atam Park) Mukhtyar Singh and Model Town SHO inspector Jaswinder Singh reached the spot and initiated a probe.

Inspector Jaswinder said they had questioned the neighbours, who denied having seen anyone exiting the deceased's house.

"Sanjay was married, but his wife had left him six months ago, due to which he was depressed. We have taken fingerprints from the room and most likely will crack the case soon," said additional commissioner of police Mukhtyar Singh.

A case has been registered against unidentified murderers.
