2 snatchers held with 13 mobile phones in Ludhiana

Police arrested two members of a gang of snatchers on Monday, while three other members are still at large. They recovered 13 mobile phones, a scooter and a motorcycle following the information provided by the arrested accused.

The arrested accused have been identified as Raju and Babbu of Sutantar Nagar. The accused who are at large are Gyani of Daba and Kalu and Ganja of Sutantar Nagar.

SHO at the Daresi police station, sub-inspector Sanjiv Kapoor said the police had arrested the accused from the Sundar Nagar area following a tip off. The accused were prowling in the area to execute more snatchings.

When grilled, the accused confessed that they have executed several incidents of snatching and vehicle lifting in Daresi, Salem Tabri and the Basti Jodhewal area. The accused had hidden the vehicles at isolated areas.

The SHO said the accused had snatched mobilephone from a man Surjit Kumar in the Madhopuri area on January 31 after assaulting him with sharpedged weapon. A case was registered against the accused in this context under Section 397 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The SHO added that the accused were drug addicts and used to commit crimes to meet their need of drugs. One of the members of the gang Gyani had been facing trial in many criminal cases. The police had been investigating to found criminal records of the rest of the accused.
