Police claimed to have arrested 20 people and recovered 5-kg of opium and other contraband in different cases on Monday.
Superintendent of police Jaskiranjit Singh Teja said that acting on a tip off, the police had arrested one Joginder Singh and confiscated around 2.5-kg opium from him.
The accused confessed that he had brought opium from Rajasthan and was on his way to sell it in various places across the district, he added.
In another case, police arrested Ferozepur resident Baldev Singh during checking of vehicles near the local truck union office, and recovered 2.5-kg opium.
Police said that the accused was already wanted in four criminal cases, and was released on bail.
Police also arrested 15 persons and recovered 73-kg poppy husk, 18,170 tablets of habit-forming drugs, 2,264 drug capsules, 70-gm smack and several bottles of illicit liquor.
