As many as 20 passengers suffered injuries after a Haryana Roadways bus collided with a Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) bus at Zirakpur on Sunday.

The injured, including four women and drivers of both the buses, were shifted to different hospitals in Chandigarh, Dera Bassi and Zirakpur.

Speaking to HT, Deepinder Singh, station house officer, Zirakpur, said the incident occurred at around 7am on Sunday when CTU bus driver Sanjay Kumar lost his control over the bus and crossed the divider to hit the Haryana Roadways bus coming from the opposite direction.

The CTU bus was heading towards Jind in Haryana, while the Haryana Roadways bus was coming to Chandigarh from Kurukshetra. Nearly 60 passengers were aboard on both the buses.

Sanjay Kumar, CTU bus driver, was driving close to the divider when the vehicle’s tyre hit it. “The driver lost control and his vehicle hit the Haryana Roadways bus after crossing over the divider. The impact was so strong that both vehicles rammed into retention wall along the road,”said inspector Deepinder Singh.

A case of rash driving was registered against Sanjay on a complaint of Bharpur Singh, Haryana roadways bus driver, at the Zirakpur police station.
